Walmart's Black Friday Starts November 12

Walmart holiday deal calendar showing Early Black Friday Nov 12-15, Black Friday Nov 23-29, and Cyber Monday Nov 30-Dec 2

Walmart's holiday deal calendar is out, and the first event starts November 12. That is ten days from today. If your Walmart Marketplace stock, pricing, and ad budgets are built around Thanksgiving week, you are already behind the calendar Walmart just set.

What Walmart announced

On October 26, Walmart announced three holiday shopping events running from November 12 through December 2:

  • Early Black Friday Deals run November 12 to 15. The event starts on Walmart.com at 12:01 a.m. ET and in stores at 6 a.m. local time.
  • Black Friday Deals run November 23 to 29. Online starts at 12:01 a.m. ET on November 23, and in-store deals start November 27 at 6 a.m. local time.
  • Cyber Monday runs November 30 to December 2, online only, starting at 12:01 a.m. ET.
  • Walmart+ members get early access to "hot Deal drops" at the start of both Black Friday events. Anything left opens to everyone 24 hours later.
  • During both Black Friday events, select online-only deals are reserved for Walmart+ members for the first 24 hours, while supplies last.

Walmart is also selling Walmart+ and Sam's Club Plus together for $120 a year this holiday season, which tells you how hard it is pushing membership heading into these events.

Why it matters for sellers

Add it up and that is 14 days of deal events, and the first one lands almost two weeks before Thanksgiving. Walmart will be pulling holiday traffic forward, and the shoppers it is courting hardest are Walmart+ members who get first crack at the best deals.

My read: on Walmart, the holiday no longer starts on Black Friday. It starts November 12. Sellers who treat the first event as a warm-up will be out of stock, out of budget, or priced wrong when the real volume shows up.

The pricing piece most sellers miss

Walmart also updated its Price Incentives tools right before this calendar kicks off. On October 28 it added three downloadable incentives reports that show which of your items are eligible for or enrolled in price incentives, Reduced Referral Fee incentives, and Walmart-funded incentive opt-outs. It added seven downloadable pricing recommendation reports the same day.

Here is why that matters going into a deal-heavy month. According to Walmart's Marketplace Learn guides:

  • Walmart-funded incentives are on by default. Walmart can lower the price shoppers see on eligible items, and you get paid as if the item sold at your original price. The incentive is capped and shows up in your Payment report.
  • Reduced Referral Fee incentives are opt-in. Walmart adjusts the item to an incentive price, and you only keep the lower fee if you stay at or below the price threshold for the incentive period. Price above it and the standard referral fee comes back.
  • You can opt out of Walmart-funded incentives item by item, in bulk with a spreadsheet, or across your whole catalog.

None of that is bad on its own. Walmart-funded incentives can make you more competitive without touching your margin. But if you also run holiday promos, sync prices with Amazon or your own site, or use a repricer, you need to know exactly which items are enrolled in what before November 12. Otherwise the price a shopper sees, the fee you pay, and the payout you expect can drift apart during your busiest weeks.

Who it affects most

  • WFS sellers who need inventory checked in before the first event, not just before Thanksgiving.
  • Seller-fulfilled brands whose handling times and carrier capacity have to hold up across a 14-day stretch, not a single weekend.
  • Brands selling the same items on Amazon and Walmart, where a Walmart price incentive or a repricer move can trigger price matching on other channels.
  • Advertisers in giftable categories like toys, electronics, and home, where Walmart is clearly leaning in with its Top Toys list and thousands of gifts under $20.

What I would do this week

  • Plan inventory for three events, not one. Map your sell-through to November 12 to 15, November 23 to 29, and November 30 to December 2, and get WFS replenishment moving now.
  • Pull the new incentives reports from Seller Center or the API. Know which SKUs are enrolled in Walmart-funded incentives and Reduced Referral Fee offers, and decide on purpose which ones stay in.
  • Check your promo stacking. Make sure planned holiday promotions, incentive enrollment, and any repricer rules do not combine into a price you never meant to run.
  • Split your Walmart Connect budget across all three events. Do not spend the whole month's budget on Black Friday week and go dark for Early Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
  • Tighten your listings for your top holiday items. Titles, images, and content should be ready before November 12, because that is when Walmart starts sending holiday traffic.
